Gattorna’s win the experience St Andrews father and son golf tournament

The 20th Anniversary of The Experience St Andrews Father and Son Golf Tournament for 2023 was recently played at the home of golf in Scotland with Father John Gattorna (The Australian GC) and Son Tim Gattorna (Lake Karrinyup CC) participating this year.

26 teams competed, drawn from Australia (3 teams); Austria; Canada (6 teams); England; France; Ireland (2 teams); Scotland; South Africa (2 teams); Switzerland; and USA (8 teams). Ireland won last year’s tournament and they also returned this year to defend their title.

The tournament was conducted over four rounds on St Andrews New Course, Kingsbarns, Carnoustie and the final round at the St Andrews Old Course. The main competition was a 4BBB Stableford, featuring Father and Son teams from many countries around the world. The winners were those with the highest Stableford points accumulated over the four courses played.

At their third attempt, we are delighted to advise members that LKCC Member Tim Gattorna and father John won the tournament with 175 Stableford points from Kaled and Jasper Hassoun (Kingston Heath) with 170 pts.

John and Tim are first Australians to win the trophy, which had previously been dominated by the USA (6 wins); South Africa (6 wins); Canada (2 wins); and Ireland (2 wins). The winners’ names are engraved on the perpetual trophy which is held at St. Andrews. The Gattorna’s received a full-sized replica of the Old Claret Jug, identical to that given to all Open Champions, plus a Limited-Edition Commemorative 150th St Andrews Putter.

John said of his experience “Tim and I came to St. Andrews this year with pretty low expectations, but after day 1 on the New Course we dared to dream. As it turned out, we won, and what a privilege it was to be there on the winners’ podium on the 20th Anniversary of this event”.

Well done and Congratulations to John and Tim Gattorna.
