Junior Pennants Boys – Round 4

Division 2 Pennant Wrap up

Close contest for Division 2. Solid win for Lachie. Great fight from Will we came from 4 down to just run out of holes, losing 3&1. Another great fight by Michael who came from 3 down to win 2&1.

Sam put in a huge effort and fought to the end. Yash pulled his match back to just lose on the last hole, 2 down.

Great effort this year by a team full of fighters!

Division 3 Pennant Wrap Up

We opened the season at Cottesloe Golf Club against eventual division winners Lakelands Country Club, going down 3&2 in a tight contest that could have gone either way.

Our second match against Cottesloe at The Vines Golf & Country Club saw great fighting efforts from Lucas and Nic, both halving their matches late, which squared the day. We then travelled to Lakelands to face Mandurah Country Club and produced a strong team performance to win 4–1, despite giving away shots on paper.

The final round at Mandurah against Hartfield Country Club didn’t go our way (5–0), although Nic and Jack had close matches.

Overall, it was a fantastic month, especially with several players in their first pennant season. The team spirit and camaraderie were outstanding, and it was a pleasure to manage the group. Thanks to Tom Brady for filling in — we’re looking forward to next year.

Division 4 Pennant Wrap Up

The 2026 Junior Pennants season for our Div 4 boys was about far more than results. It was a season defined by growth, resilience, sportsmanship, and genuine enjoyment of the game. Across three competitive rounds and a final bye week at The Vines, the boys showed exactly what LKCC junior golf is about: effort, character, and team spirit.

Week 1 – vs Gosnells (Away) | Result: 0–4 Loss

The season opened against a strong Gosnells side. While the overall result went against us, the performance was full of positives. Our reserve won his match (unfortunately not counting toward the team score), and the boys’ attitude and sportsmanship were outstanding throughout the day.

A special mention to Ronaldo, who, despite losing 2/1, showed exceptional compassion, empathy, and judgement playing alongside an opponent with autism — a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of this team. The boys never gave up, competed hard, and represented the club with class.

Week 2 – Close Contest | Result: Narrow Win (Approx. 2.5–1.5)

This was a terrific team performance in a tight match-up. The boys showed real grit and composure:

  • Ronaldo won comfortably
  • Jayden fought back from 1 down to win 2/1
  • Ethan (Captain) held his nerve to square his match
  • Toshi battled hard all day against tough opposition

Across the board, the boys displayed excellent temperament, focus, and support for each other, earning a well-deserved close win.

Week 3 – vs Nedlands | Result: 4–0 Win

A statement performance from the team. Every match was won, and the boys played with confidence and discipline:

  • Ronaldo, giving away 11 shots, jumped out to an early two-hole lead and powered home for a dominant 6/4 win, with outstanding driving and bunker play
  • Ethan continued his superb putting form to secure a 5/4 win, showing calm leadership
  • Toshi showed great resilience, coming back from 3 down to win 2/1
  • Aikom recorded a walkover as Nedlands could only field three players, while Riayn and Aikom still got valuable match experience against reserves

This was a complete team performance built on preparation, focus, and trust in each other.

Week 4 – The Vines (Bye Round)

The boys had a bye in the final week, but that didn’t stop them from making a great day of it. They played together, bonded as a group, and enjoyed the occasion.

A fun highlight was the last-hole challenge between Ronaldo’s grandad and the team manager — which ended in a very respectable draw — followed by a putt-off that, depending on who you ask, has two very different versions of history!

Most importantly, the boys had a fantastic time and, in their words, wanted the season to go on for longer — always the best sign of a great team culture.

Junior Pennants Boys – Round 3

Division 1 – at Gosnells against Royal Perth – won 3-2

Division 1 went up against Royal Perth at the weekend.

A very close match with Chris and Ryan getting beat 7/5 and 5/4 both lads playing really well then we had James win 5/4 which left Ty and Finn left on the course Ty winning 3/2 match was tied at 2-2 Finns match went to the 18th and holes a 8 footer for par to win 1 up.

Division 2 boys – at Gosnells against Gosnells – lost 0-5

A hard day at the office for the division 2 boys playing against a strong side with home course advantage. A couple of matches very close and hard fought but ultimately the home side had a convincing win.

Division 3 boys – at Lakelands against Mandurah – won 4-1

A solid round of golf from the boys on Sunday.

At No 1, Flynn was steady and composed, playing smart golf to get the 4/3 win.

Sam, at No 2, had a strong front nine but his opponent lifted on the back nine  to come back to record a 4/3 win.

At No 3 Jack was rock solid and proved too steady for his opponent, coming away with an impressive 6/4 win.

In the 4 and 5 spots, Bill built great momentum  as the day wet on while Mason showed plenty of class in his first pennant match, both boys securing convincing 4/3 victories.

Division 4 boys – at LKCC against Nedlands – won 4-0

Played at home against Nedlands and recorded a huge 4-0 win to cap off a brilliant 3 week stretch of growth and confidence. More than the scoreline it was the way in which the boys played  – disciplined, respectful and composed. We should all be very proud if that!

The tone was set from the first tee – Ronaldo absolutely nailed it. Giving away 11 shots he jumped to an early 2-up lead and never looked back, recording a massive 6/4 win with awesome driving and clutch bunker play showing power and precision.

Skipper Ethan showed real class and leadership sorting the tee time mix-up then went to work with his putter. ‘He’s a really good putter’ says it all. Another strong 5/4 win. Putt for dough, right?

Toshi had the grit of the day, 3 down after 7 holes, stayed patient , won 3 in a row and then shut the door for a well deserved 2/1 win. That’s belief and composure under pressure.

All waiting on the 18th green for their reserve player to cheer him on!

Aikom had a walkover with Nedlands only fielding 3 players, but had quality match play with other reserves – great for his game development.

The team has shown great growth over the 3 weeks with a loss in the first week, a close win in the second and a convincing win in the third.

Junior Pennants Boys – Round 2

Division 1 at Kwinana against Gosnells

Lake Karrinyup were narrowly defeated 3–2 in a hard-fought match against a strong Gosnells side at Kwinana.

Division 2 at Kwinana against Bunbury

Lake Karrinyup were defeated 4–1 by Bunbury at Kwinana, with two matches halved and the remaining contests decided by narrow margins.

Division 3 at The Vines against Cottesloe

Tied match at 2.5 apiece after a cracking day. Jack exploded out of the blocks again and never gave an inch. Sam was not feeling great but dug deep and ground it out for the team. Bill was locked in an arm wrestle all day and had a birdie putt on the last hole to win it – agonisingly close but it just slid by. Nick and Lucas were 3 down for most of the day before producing s huge late charge over the final three holes. Massive comeback from both. Unreal effort all round on an extremely hot but  ripper of a day!!!

Division 4 at Mount Lawley against Mosman Park

What a mesmerising round for our Div 4 boys, with every match going down to the wire and plenty of grit, nerve, and great golf on show. The scoreboard tells only part of the story—this was a day defined by temperament, focus, and exemplary sportsmanship from start to finish.

Ronaldo set the tone early, bursting out of the gate to take a two-hole lead and never letting his opponent breathe. Playing confident, attacking golf, he stayed in control all day and slammed the door shut on the 14th and 15th to secure a comprehensive and well-deserved win against a very capable opponent.

Toshi had an early lead and fought hard all the way. He showed great focus throughout the round, especially as his opponent played “out of his skin” on the back nine. It was a high-quality contest, full of pressure moments, and Toshi’s composure and persistence were a real highlight.

Jayden was solid from start to finish and showed real maturity in how he managed his match. After being 1 down, he kept pressing, trusted his game, and made his move in the final holes to come back and win 2/1—a great example of staying patient and capitalising when it mattered.

Special mention has to go to our captain, Ethan “Ice Man” Byrne. In a match full of momentum swings and some genuinely magical shots from his opponent, Ethan kept to his steadfast game plan and rolled in some excellent putts to hold his nerve and square the match over the final four holes after being 1 down. Calm, composed, and clutch. Exactly what you want from your skipper!

Across the board, the boys’ temperament and sportsmanship were exemplary. You genuinely couldn’t tell who was winning or losing by their attitude—just effort, respect, and a real pride in competing the right way.

A cracking day of golf and a great reflection of team camaraderie with the whole group on the 18th green encouraging the final group.

Junior Pennants Boys – Round 1

Division 1 at Kwinana Golf Club against Gosnells 1

Division 1 boys had a 4.5-0.5 win over Wanneroo at Royal Fremantle Golf Club. James Dyer at number 1 defeating Austin Marsh 3/2 and Finn Kelly at 2 beating Lucas Begley 5/3. Number 3 Ryan Chen went all the way winning the 18th hole to record a halved match. Fourth player Ty Patterson (despite forgetting his golf shoes!) recorded a 2/1 win over Shayne Lynden and in number 5 spot Chris Jiang had a convincing 5/4 win over Joshua Jackson.

Division 1 is always highly competitive with strong players so overall a great win for this team on the first day of 2026 pennant competition.

Gavin Kelly

Division 2 at Royal Fremantle against Joondalup

Division 2 boys had a 3-2 win over Joondalup at Royal Fremantle. Five hard fought matches resulted in 2 strong wins – Ming 5/3 and Yash 4/3 and a gusty 1 up win by Mikey with two clutch putts for the win and a 3rd point for the team.

From left to right: Tejas Eseltine, Lachlan Frost, Mikey Wyper, Yash Sheth, Ming Guo

Great team spirit with the whole team waiting for the last player on the 18th green.

James Wyper

Division 3 at Cottesloe against Lakelands

The team got off to a good start with Will 4 up after 9 holes, Flynn 1 up and Jack 3 up. Sam was down a couple and Lucas only 1 down.

Unfortunately, Will could not hold on and capitulated with the Lakelands player managing to peg him back to win 2/1.

Flynn was in an arm wrestle most of the day. He kept his composure after a late ruling in the game and held on to record a 1 up victory.

Jack Dyer bounced out of the blocks and won 4/2 leading all the way.

Sam started well but had difficulty controlling the ball in the high winds but had a tough opponent who played a solid game throughout.

Lucas at number 5 was chasing tail most of the day and could not gain any momentum.

All of the boys fought hard all day and recorded an overall close loss of 3/2.

From left to right: Jack Dyer, Flynn Lilwall, Lucas Blizard, Will Percival, Bill Bao, Sam Lee

Division 4 at Gosnells against Gosnells

Lake Karrinyup’s Div 4 Boys Pennant team faced Gosnells Golf Club this week, with the match concluding in a 4–0 result in favour of Gosnells. While the overall score did not fall our way, there were many positives to take from the day.

Our reserve player recorded a strong win (not counting toward the match result), and all players competed with determination and pride. The boys displayed outstanding sportsmanship, resilience, and composure throughout the day, never giving up and continuing to play their best golf until the final holes.

From left to right: Toshi Nguyen, Ronaldo Lee, Ethan Byrne, Jayden Gui, Aikom Singh

What stood out most was the way the team represented Lake Karrinyup. Their attitude, manners, and respect for opponents were exemplary, and you would not have known the match score by observing the way they carried themselves on course.

As manager, I am extremely proud of this group of young players and the character they showed. Performances like this reflect the values of our club and bode well for the future.
